In Regensburg today Leif Jensen, CEO of VKR Holding, accompanied by the managing director of Sonnenkraft Germany, Rainer Höfer, the mayor, politicians, journalists and more than

100 customers and business relations officially opened the Haus der Zukunft (House of the Future), which is the second of the totally eight demonstration houses under construction by the VKR Group.

In his opening speech Rainer Höfer underlined that the house has been developed in close cooperation with the architect Stephan Fabi, the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE in Freiburg and the University of Regensburg. The project aims to show that even today it is possible with use of existing products to realise an affordable house with low energy consumption, pleasant indoor conditions and an attractive architecture.

The house is unique in that by combining solar cells, an innovative thermal solar heating system, low-energy windows, intelligent monitoring etc. it produces more energy than it consumes. Thus already today it lives up to the future German legislation to be expected in 2020.

The house will be tested for two years

In the next six months the house will be used for marketing purposes by SONNENKRAFT having its German Headquarters in Regensburg. Later it is planned to sell the house at market price, and for the next two years the house will be monitored closely to measure the energy consumption and the indoor climate in cooperation with the local Fraunhofer Institute.
